Don't
look for a mine shaft, there isn't one. The mining here was placer mining
(panning for gold and dredging the creek bed). They are still looking for
the 'Mother Load'! Even so, this was the richest gold producing area in
S.E. Alaska. Imagine, they took 45,000 ounces of gold from this region and
haven't located the source of all that gold yet! Get yourself a grubstake
and head for the hills. Better get some warm clothes too, it's not always
this balmy!
