On
this particular day I witnessed one on the most violent windstorms of my
life! I was at the edge of Portage Lake in a tiny rented car. When I pulled
up to the lake a gust of wind came across the lake and literally lifted
the front of the car off the ground. Made a believer out of me! For one
thing, don't rent tiny cars in Alaska. The wind had grounded this iceberg,
which had calved off of Portage Glacier at the other end of the lake, and
I braved being blown away to get this photo.
