I'm
not sure why this area is called Nipple Bench, but I am sure its an interesting
story. It does have some of the strangest landscapes I have ever seen. The
coloring of the terrain is very different, and quite beautiful in its own
way. If you saw the movie 'The Outlaw Josie Wales', there were scenes in the
movie that were filmed here. I read somewhere that when this was an ancient
sea bed there were chemicals deposited here that are very toxic to plant life.
That's why there is no vegetation. I think it has something to do with that
black and gray dirt.
