As I approached
the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in late October of 2003, I saw clouds
of smoke billowing up. All I could think was 'Oh no, not a forest fire'!
It was apparently a controlled burn, but much of the smoke was being drawn
into the canyon. Disappointed at first, then I stopped to actually see what
was in front of me instead of just looking at it. It was fabulous! Here
were very unusual conditions that allowed me to get some great 'once-in-a-lifetime'
photos.
