There it
is! Beautiful Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 states. If you
stand on the summit of Mt. Whitney, your head will be above 14,500 feet
(unless you are quite short - in which case I recommend standing on tip
toe. If that doesn't make you giddy enough, wait until someone taller arrives
who can pick you up!). I have stood on top of Mt. Whitney. My companions
and I climbed up the side you are looking at. Yes, it required ropes and
pitons and experience, but it was thrilling. The climb is about 2500 vertical
feet and it is very high angle. I guess that's what makes it worth while.
There is a much easier trail to the summit for non climbers. (We came down
that way.)
