This was
one of my favorite backpacking and climbing destinations in the Sierra Nevada
mountains. I think the photo just about says it all. Solitude, beauty and
near to some of the best peaks in the Sierras (The
14,000 foot Palisades). The views from this lake are almost overwhelming.
I remember sitting on the shore at night when the calm lake was a perfect
mirror for the stars. It was if you were looking through a hole in the earth
at a starry universe on the other side. One of those moments of sheer beauty
that is thankfully engraved in my memory! The tents and people on the far
side of the lake are my climbing companions.
