The lava
field at McKenzie Pass is astonishing. Partly because it was formed about
1500 years ago. A mere moment in geologic time! The struggle for life in
this inhospitable area is amazing. There are beautiful wildflowers and trees
growing right out of the Lava. Some, such as the poor old snag in this photograph,
succumb to the elements. But all is not lost as it is beautiful even in
its demise.
