I was told
that this appeared to be an old manure spreader. It has a chain drive mechanism
that looks like it could perform that function as it was pulled along by
a draft animal. Some of these old farm implements are quite clever. They
were simple mechanisms and yet they performed admirably without the use
of any fuel (other than some hay and oats, which in turn became some of
the fertilizer used on the farm). If only we could all be as self sufficient
as these pioneers were! I am sure we, and our environment, would be a lot
healthier.
