Although
the river looks very tranquil in this photo, it can be a raging torrent
during spring and summer thunder storms. After all, it is the primary sculptor
of Zion Canyon, and it's still at work. This is the river that carved the
famous Narrows of Zion Canyon. The park road follows the river to the Temple
of Sinawava, where you can start the hike to the narrows. Be aware that
this hike is, literally, up the river bed. Do not go there if there is even
a remote chance of rain, there is no place to run to get out of the way
of flash floods that may follow! Check with park rangers before attempting
that hike.
